ATLANTA (AP) — A man is dead after a shootout in Atlanta that left a deputy with a minor injury to his hand, authorities said.
The Fulton County deputy was working off-duty Monday night at a business in the city’s West End neighborhood, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
The deputy responded to calls for help from two people who ran out the back of a store that rents furniture, appliances and other items, officials said. Shortly after that, the officer exchanged gunfire with a man armed with what appeared to be an automatic weapon, the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office did not say exactly how the man died. The deputy was treated and released from a hospital for an injury to his hand, the sheriff’s office said.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into the shooting.
